An IOTA workshop ’Tax Administration Strategies in a Changing Tax Service Landscape’ took place on 3-5 May 2017 in Yerevan, hosted by the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia. 28 participants from 14 IOTA member countries discussed methods of how tax administration can relate to tax service providers to achieve a higher level of taxpayers' compliance. The event was a follow up on the joint OECD – IOTA workshop held in February 2016 in the same subject.

Participants had the opportunity to gain information from presentations of Italy, Finland, Hungary, Portugal and the Netherlands followed by group discussions. Workshop participants explored existing and new business models created by tax service providers, and also new types of tax services that build on innovative technological options and a move towards services solution thinking. Delegates learned about development of strategies to shape relationship between tax administrations and tax service providers and about different role the government, the tax administration, tax intermediaries (accountants, tax advisers), and other intermediaries (business partners, providers of cash registers, accounting software, etc.) play in compliance process. Participants had the opportunity to gain insights in certain technological developments that are having impact on taxpayers, tax administrations and tax service providers.
