We are pleased to announce that the IOTA Secretariat’s delegation paid an official visit to the Georgian Revenue Service between 21-23 November 2022, in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The program of the visit of the IOTA’s delegation, led by Alix Perrignon de Troyes, Executive Secretary of IOTA, included several  working meetings with Levan Kakava, President of IOTA, Head of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, and other representatives of the Georgia Revenue Service on the preparations for the 27th General Assembly that  will take place  next June  in Tbilisi, Georgia under the main theme “Transformation of International Tax System and Tax Administrations”.

It was a very important visit for both organisers to inspect venues and share ideas about the innovative ways to bring together the commissioners of IOTA member tax administrations, representatives of international partner organisations, businesses and academia to debate the changes in international law, technology, and business models that are causing unprecedented disruption to Tax Administrations as they adapt to the digital world.

Officials of the IOTA Secretariat and members of the local organising team discussed the technical, logistical and financial  conditions necessary for holding the next year’s General Assembly of IOTA. Alix Perrignon de Troyes, Executive Secretary of IOTA, and other members of the IOTA Secretariat’s management gave an update on the development of the Action Plan for the organisation of the Assembly and highlighted the importance of holding regular virtual meetings between the teams to inform each other and coordinate the achieved progress.

During these busy days of the visit, we came to a common understanding about the pre-conditions that need to be taken into account and major milestones to be focused on in the coming months. In October 2019, the Georgian Revenue Service successfully hosted the Annual International Conference of IOTA – Tax Compliance Technology Showroom. This gives us the advantage and full confidence in organising the IOTA’s major annual event next year," Mrs. Perrignon de Troyes said.

Levan Kakava expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the members of the IOTA delegation for their visit, work and professionalism in facilitating the achievement of priorities of the Georgian Presidency in IOTA, furthermore he noted that, it is a great honour and a great responsibility for Georgia to host such a high-ranking event and hold the presidency for the very first time in the history of Georgia Revenue Service.

"On this scale, the Revenue Service will host an event under the auspices of IOTA for the first time, aimed at exhibiting electronic technologies and sharing experiences. In addition, the forum serves to increase awareness of digital and electronic technologies introduced in the field of tax administration, to share practical experience in tax authorities of different countries and to present products created by international companies in this field", said Mr. Levan Kakava.

The 26th IOTA General Assembly appointed the Georgia Revenue Service as the next Presidency of IOTA for the current period 2022/2023. Marc Bugnon, former President of IOTA handed over the IOTA flag to Levan Kakava, Director General of Georgia Revenue Service during the flag handover ceremony at the 26th General Assembly in Zurich, Switzerland, making Levan Kakava the new President of IOTA for this one-year term. The 27th IOTA General Assembly will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia on 28th-30th June 2023 under the Georgian Presidency.
